City Council Urges Governor to Sign Legislation Establishing Commission to Oversee Prosecutorial Conduct and Accountability

Article

Today, the Rochester City Council sent a letter to Governor Andrew M. Cuomo urging him to sign legislation that would establish a New York State Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct.

This legislation received bipartisan support in the New York State Assembly and New York State Senate and is now awaiting the Governor’s signature.

The Rochester City Council joins almost 20 organizations and the City of Yonkers, City of Syracuse, and City of Hudson in urging Governor Cuomo to sign this legislation.

“Our state is, and should be, a leader on progressive issues in our Country. That is why we are encouraging Governor Cuomo to sign into law the proposed Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct,” said City Councilmember Willie J. Lightfoot. “This bold action would make New York State the first in our Nation to have such a Commission. The proposed Prosecutorial Conduct Commission is modeled after Commission on Judicial Conduct and provides a system of professional accountability and oversight for prosecutors in our state.”
