Ellen Stubbs was a nurse for over 50 years.

She gave of her time, talent to the Anthony L. Jordan Health Corporation, Community Health Care Association of NY, the YWCA Board of Directors, The Cap Book, the Coalition of North East Associations (CONEA), the Finger Lakes Health Systems Agency, The Health Association, Rochester Health Network, Baden Street Settlement, Great Rochester Housing Partnership, Wilson Commencement Park, First Book, the United Way, Habitat for Humanity, the Frederick Douglass Museum, The Alt Foundation, Black Leadership HIV member.

she was an active member of several churches including as President of the Young Adult Missionary Society at Aenon Baptist Church, Sunday School Superintendent at Atlantic Avenue Baptist Church, on the Board of Trustees at Greece Baptist Church and the Monroe Baptist Association.

In addition, She also served as a delegate to the UN Conference Status of Women in 1995, in Beijing, China and as a member of the World Conference Against Racism in 2001, in Durban, South Africa.

Ellen received many awards (Global Ministries Humanitarian Award, International Service Extraordinaire, Sojourner Truth Award 1979, Lena Gantt Award 1983, Unsung Heroes of the City of Rochester 2002), she was most proud of receiving the Ollie Chin Porter Award this summer from the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women, "for her Vision, Fortitude and Courage," just to name a few.
