Board-Certified Physician in Anatomic, Clinical and Cytopathology, and the Chief of Pathology at Highland Hospital Dr. Julietta Fiscella will be teaching at the Rochester Brainery on Monday, June 4th from 6:30 pm until 8:30pm about: The Science of Food Cravings.
“Food addiction is like opioid addiction,” Dr. Fiscella said. “Both make us feel good and are pleasure seeking. When we eat foods that are pleasurable, we activate our opioid pathway in the brain and cause the brain to secrete a hormone DOPAMINE,” she further explains. “This is the same pathway that’s activated when we take pleasure seeking drugs like amphetamines and similar others. Both acts cause us to seek out more and more because of the pleasure and satisfaction we feel.”
At the session, Dr. Fiscella will be discussing the method in which dopamine affects Us.
In doing so, she inadvertently provides further insight that will allow attendees to better understand the opioid epidemic and how someone can revert from setting-off cravings through their diet.
The cost of the class is $35. There will be a cooking demonstration to immediately follow the lecture.

The demonstration is a fusion of science, medicine, and cooking experienced through fun activities that empowers you to create life-long change in the selection and preparation of food to promote optimal health and improve chronic disease.
