Mayor Lovely Warren would like your young people to be a part of the third annual Inspiring Beauty and The Distinguished Gentleman events!
Inspiring Beauty: Empowering Young Women: The Mayors Red Carpet Affair is for young women ages 14 to 22 ONLY. Inspiring Beauty will be held at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center, Saturday, June 2 from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Distinguished Gentleman: The Mayor's Appointment: Inspiring Success in Young Men is for young men ages 14 to 22 ONLY. The Distinguished Gentleman will be held at the Blue Cross Arena, Saturday, June 16 from 5 to 7 p.m.
In order to attend, young people are asked to write a 200 word essay about themselves: What would they like to accomplish in life? What is their life’s passion? The deadline for entry is April 20 and applications and other documents should be submitted to WDKX. If selected, they will attend Inspiring Beauty or The Distinguished Gentleman!
Inspiring Beauty and The Distinguished Gentleman provide our young people with the opportunity to gain invaluable life skills by networking with community “Role Models” in a formal, but fun and relaxed, atmosphere. Our Role Models are active community volunteers, who will spend the evening sharing business and life experiences, while making connections with young people which may turn into mentoring, educational, internship or job opportunities.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to network with their peers, while interacting with staff and students from several local colleges, and multiple fraternal and community organizations. Our young people will also receive hands on training on how to dress for success, prepare for a job interview, dinner table etiquette and more. The 200 young men and 200 young women will receive “Success (or Swag) Bags” filled with donated ties, pearl necklaces, earrings and bracelets; as well as toiletries, portfolios and more.
Each year local business owners, several churches, local sororities and fraternities generously donate gift cards towards giveaways that are held towards the end of Inspiring Beauty and The Distinguished Gentleman. This year, because of the generosity of several organizations, during the giveaway portion of the program, we will have the opportunity to provide several scholarships, and several laptops or MacBook’s to a few graduating high school seniors and students who are currently enrolled in college!
