Laplois 'Lackie' Ashford is the first African American to be elected citywide to the Rochester School Board, in 1968 and The first African American President of the Rochester Board of Education. He was Executive Director of the Rochester Urban League, before he left the Rochester for the Chicago Urban League in 1970.
